FAQs

Registration

Q: Can I change my distance or transfer my registration to a new participant?

A: Yes. If you have already registered but wish to change your distance (i.e. from the 5K to the 10K) or transfer your registration to a new participant, please contact us at pubaffairs@forces.gc.ca.

Q: Can I get a refund if I am unable to participate in the Run?

A: All entry fees are non-refundable. You can, however, transfer your registration to another person no later than May 23.

Q: My family has more than 3 kids, can I still sign up for the 3km Family Fun Run/Walk?

A: Yes, please contact the RCAF Run organizers directly at pubaffairs@forces.gc.ca to assist you.

Q: What is included in the registration of the event?

A: Registration in any of the timed events included a complimentary technical race t-shirt, race bib, timing chip and race kit. Registrants are asked to indicate their preferred size at the time of registration.

*Registrants in the 3 km Family Fun Run/Walk DO NOT receive a race kit. Family Fun Run/Walk entrants must check in on race day in the Race Village to pick up their participation identification that is required at the start line and to receive a completion medal.

 

Race Kit Pick-up

Q: When can I pick up my race kit?

A: Race kit pick-up for all 5km Race, 10km Race and Half Marathon registrants will take place at the Fitness and Recreation Centre on Whytewold / Wihuri Road at 680 Whytewold Road in Winnipeg on Friday, May 24th, 2019 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Saturday May 25th, 2019 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Registrants in the 3 km Family Fun Run/Walk DO NOT receive a race kit. Family Fun Run/Walk entrants must check in on race day in the Race Village to pick up their participation identification that is required at the start line and to receive a completion medal.

Q: Does a participant need photo identification to pick up their registration package?

A: The person who is picking up the race-kit must have a printed copy of the confirmation email or have the confirmation email on their mobile phone. Please also bring photo identification with you in the event it is required for clarification.

Q: Am I able to pick up a race kit for someone else?

A: Yes. Friends and family members can pick up your kit for you and, likewise, you can pick up a kit for someone else. Just follow the same procedures as when retrieving your own.

 

During the race…

Q: Am I able to push my child in a baby jogger or stroller device for the 5K, 10K route?

A: For safety purposes it is asked that strollers and wagons be used only during the 3km Family Fun Run/Walk route. No other form of conveyance (i.e. inline skates, bicycles, etc.) will be permitted.

Q: Am I able to bring my pet on the 5K, 10K route?

A: No. For the safety of other runners, pets are not allowed on the course. The only exception is for guide and service dogs. Also, animals, including dogs, are not permitted on an active Flight line due to safety concerns.

Q: Are walkers welcome in the 5K, 10K?

A: Walkers are most welcome and are given a start position behind the last row of runners. Please start your race in the last corral at the start line.

Q: Will there be official RCAF Run pacers to help us get through either race?

A: There will be pacers in both events, identified by a sign that each one will carry that signifies their anticipated finish time.

Q: How many water stations will be set up on the course and where will they be located?

A: There will be 8 water stations for the 10 k run, the first located at 3K and situated approximately every 3K thereafter. There will be one water station in the 5K located just before the 3K mark. There will also be toilets placed at each water station location.

Q: Where does the race start?

A: Start Location: 17 Wing Fitness and Recreation Centre (680 Whytewold Rd)

Q: Can my child use their bicycle on the running course?

A: NAV Canada (the country’s civil air navigation services provider), prohibits the use of any transportation device that is not under the direct control of an adult on open flight lines. Wagons, however, are permitted.

Q: Can I wear a back-pack if I am running in the RCAF Run?

A: The safety and security of all participants and visitors is a top concern therefore no backpacks will be allowed on any of the running routes or on the flight line. A dry clothes check is available at the RCAF Run Race Village.

Q: Will I get to see aircraft while I’m running my race (5K, 10K, Half)?

A: Yes, the course for each distance will take you past the flight line where you will have a chance to see the aircraft on display. If you’d like to get a closer look after your race, there will be shuttles available to drop you off back at the static displays between 12:00pm and 2:00pm.

Q: What type of aircraft will I get to see at the RCAF Run?

A: There will be a large variety of military aircraft on display for you on the 17 Wing Flight Line. The specific aircraft are not yet confirmed, but will be announced via our Facebook page and under the “Race Weekend-Static Aircraft” tab.

Q: Can I visit the static aircraft displays even though I am not a registered race participant?

A: Yes, the static displays will be open between 12:00pm and 2:00pm where you can see a wide variety of military aircraft, and meet the airwomen and airmen who operate these aircraft.

 

Services

Q: Is there a Lost and Found Area at the race site?

A: All lost and found items will be sent to the Information booth located in Building 90.

Q: Which services will be available during the race?

A: The following services will be available along each route:

  • Course markers
  • Water stations
  • Toilets
  • Mobile first aid stations

All race routes feature the flight line static displays of RCAF aircraft and equipment.  Participants are welcomed to stop and visit the displays either during or on completion of their timed event.
